These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of chordsocial.com and the Chord application (together, "the Service"), operated by Chord Social ("we", "us", "our"). By creating an account and using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. By creating an account, you confirm that you meet this requirement. We reserve the right to terminate accounts of users found to be under 18.
2. Account Registration
- Accounts are invite-only. You must have a valid, unused invite link to register.
- You may only create one account per person.
- You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure.
- You must provide accurate information during registration.
- You may not transfer your account to another person.
3. Subscription and Payment
3.1 Membership Tiers
- Member: £6 per month, billed monthly via Stripe, cancel anytime.
- Founding Member: £99 one-time payment, limited to 100 slots.
- Complimentary accounts: granted by Chord Social at our discretion, no payment required.
3.2 Billing
Payments are processed by Stripe. By subscribing, you authorise Stripe to charge your payment method on a recurring basis (for monthly subscribers). You can manage your subscription from your account settings.
3.3 Refunds
- Monthly subscriptions: you may cancel at any time. No refunds for partial months already billed.
- Founding Membership: eligible for a full refund within 30 days of purchase if requested in writing to legal@chordsocial.com. After 30 days, the payment is non-refundable.
- Complimentary accounts: no payment, no refund applicable.
3.4 Price Changes
We reserve the right to change subscription prices with 30 days notice. Founding Members are not subject to price increases.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- Post content that is illegal under UK law or the law of your jurisdiction
- Post content that is abusive, harassing, threatening, or hateful toward any individual or group
- Post content that sexualises minors in any way
- Impersonate any person or entity
- Post spam, unsolicited promotions, or commercial content
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service or other users' accounts
- Use automated tools, bots, or scrapers to access the Service
- Post content that infringes the intellectual property rights of others
- Share others' private information without their consent
Violation of this section may result in immediate account suspension or termination without refund.
5. Platform Rules
- You may follow a maximum of 100 accounts.
- You may have a maximum of 100 active Notes. The oldest Note is auto-archived when you post your 101st.
- You may use the Service for a maximum of 100 minutes per day. The limit resets at midnight.
- You may not purchase or sell visibility, followers, or amplifications.
6. Content Ownership and Licence
You retain ownership of the content you post on the Service. By posting content, you grant Chord Social a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to display, distribute, and store your content solely for the purpose of operating the Service. This licence ends when you delete your content or account.
We do not claim ownership of your content. We do not use your content to train AI models or for advertising.
7. Content Removal and Account Suspension
7.1 Our Rights
We reserve the right to remove any content that violates these Terms or our Acceptable Use Policy, and to suspend or terminate accounts that repeatedly or seriously violate our rules.
7.2 Process
- Minor violations: content removed, warning issued.
- Serious violations (harassment, illegal content): immediate content removal and account suspension.
- Illegal content (e.g. CSAM, incitement to violence): immediate removal, account termination, and report to relevant authorities.
7.3 Appeals
If your content is removed or account suspended, you may appeal by emailing legal@chordsocial.com within 14 days with the subject line "Appeal: [your username]". We will respond within 14 working days. Our decision on appeal is final.
8. Reporting Content
If you see content that violates these Terms, use the "Report" option on any Note. Reports are reviewed by our moderation team. We aim to respond to reports within 48 hours. For urgent matters (illegal content, imminent harm), email abuse@chordsocial.com.
9. Intellectual Property
The Chord name, logo, design, and software are the intellectual property of Chord Social. You may not use them without our written permission.
10. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Chord Social is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability to you shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or any liability that cannot be excluded under UK law.
11. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting a notice in the app at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
