Acceptable Use Policy
Company: Chord Social | Website: chordsocial.com | Last updated: 30 May 2026
This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") sets out what you may and may not do on chordsocial.com and the Chord application (together, "the Service"). This policy is part of our Terms of Service. By using the Service, you agree to this policy.
1. What Chord Is For
Chord is a social platform for thoughtful, creative sharing. It is designed for people who want a quieter, more intentional social media experience. Notes should reflect genuine human expression — photography, writing, ideas, observations.
2. Prohibited Content
2.1 Is Illegal
- Violates UK law or the law of your jurisdiction
- Constitutes criminal activity, including fraud, theft, or incitement
- Infringes copyright, trademarks, or other intellectual property rights
- Contains child sexual abuse material (CSAM) — this will be reported to the IWF and relevant authorities immediately
2.2 Is Harmful to Others
- Harasses, bullies, or threatens any individual
- Incites hatred against any person or group based on protected characteristics (race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, nationality, age, etc.)
- Promotes violence or self-harm
- Doxxes individuals — sharing private information without consent
- Impersonates any person or organisation
2.3 Is Spam or Manipulation
- Unsolicited commercial advertising or promotion
- Coordinated inauthentic behaviour — fake accounts, artificial amplification
- Misinformation designed to deceive
- Content designed to manipulate platform mechanics
2.4 Is Otherwise Disruptive
- Content that is purely designed to shock or disgust with no creative merit
- Excessive repetitive posting designed to flood the feed
3. Intellectual Property
Do not post content you do not have the right to share. This includes:
- Photographs or artwork owned by others without permission
- Excerpts from books, articles, or other written works beyond fair dealing
- Music, film, or other copyrighted media
If you receive a copyright takedown notice relating to your content, we will remove the content and notify you. Repeat infringers will have their accounts terminated.
4. Platform Integrity
Do not attempt to:
- Circumvent the 100-follow limit, 100-note limit, or 100-minute daily limit by any means
- Access accounts, data, or systems you are not authorised to access
- Reverse engineer, scrape, or copy the Service
- Use automated tools or bots to interact with the Service
- Exploit bugs or vulnerabilities — if you find one, report it to legal@chordsocial.com
5. Consequences of Violations
Violations of this policy may result in:
- Content removal without notice
- A warning issued to your account
- Temporary suspension of your account
- Permanent termination of your account without refund
- For illegal content: reporting to the relevant authorities
We apply these consequences proportionately. A first minor violation may result in a warning; serious or repeated violations will result in termination.
6. Reporting Violations
If you see content that violates this policy, use the "Report" option on any Note. For urgent matters, email abuse@chordsocial.com. We review all reports and aim to respond within 48 hours.
7. Our Discretion
We reserve the right to remove any content or suspend any account at our discretion if we believe it is harmful to the community, even if not explicitly listed in this policy. We will always aim to be fair and consistent in how we apply this.
